PA 25/01007/FUL - Outcome

Dear Resident

Many of you will be aware that the Parish Council, supported by some members of our community (many thanks to them) attended the Hart District Council Development Management Committee (DMC) Meeting held in the Council Chambers last night (10 Nov) which considered the cable routing planning application needed to support the previously and inappropriately approved Solar Farm. You will be further aware that your Parish Council entered a very strong, comprehensive and well-argued objection provided by Councillor Roger Bright in response to this application due to the severe disruption to our roads in and out of Long Sutton and Well which would result; it is this, supported by our District Councillor Chris Dorn, that led to consideration of this latest application by the DMC.

Clearly, this application concerning the cable routing (principally to be laid along roads to reduce cost) will have significant and detrimental effects on you, our residents but also our primary school and Lord Wandsworth College as well as local businesses situated on our access routes. Roger did an excellent job presenting the Parish Council case but nonetheless, members of the DMC chose to ignore all of our well-reasoned arguments concerning alternative routes (e.g. Across fields that will have implied additional costs to the developer) which, of course reflected, the very poor analysis undertaken by the Hart Planning Officer who disregarded all of our arguments without due attention or analysis. This was also reflected by no objections from statutory consultees. It is thus with regret that I confirm the application for the cable routing for the Solar Farm was approved without tangible amendment.

So, what next -it is highly likely that we will set up a working group to manage the Solar Farm issue and effects. I will thus contact you again in due course to determine how we might do this. What we must not do is allow this unfortunate Solar Farm development to be imposed without controls in place.

Finally, I offer my thanks to Roger Bright in particular, I hope on behalf of us all, for his considerable efforts in our collective support - both in his written objection and in presenting to the DMC last night.

Jim Goodbourn
Chair
On behalf of Long Sutton & Well Parish Council
