Dimanche Rally - Parishioners Engagement

Dear Parishioner

Many of you will be are aware (but also some of you may not be) of the intent by Farnborough District Motor Club (FDMC) to hold a rally time trial in the Long Sutton and Well area to take place on Sunday 11 April 2027 (known as the Dimanche Tour of Hampshire).  This is the first event of what the organisers intend will to be an annual one thereafter.

The Dimanche Rally Time Trial  will see rally cars travelling at speed using a combination of roads (necessitating their closure) around Long Sutton and Well linking towards Crondall and Odiham. Lord Wandsworth College has currently agreed to host the Rally HQ.

To allow the rally to take place, for the duration of 11 April, this will result in the closure of Long Lane, a stretch of White Hill (leading to LWC and the Finish Line) and potentially (although not currently clear) White Hill progressing up to and then through Well where access will be required to the Start Line.  Whilst the rally organisers advise that access will be allowed to and from adjoining properties to the route this will only be possible in a highly controlled manner.

This event is very likely to cause major disruption and inconvenience within Long Sutton & Well throughout the weekend of the event caused by the set up of it, the event itself and the recovery post the event due to a combination of increased traffic levels through Long Sutton and Well, restricted access to properties (as noted), noise pollution, potential road damage, the presence of a high number of spectators, and also wild life effects (of significance the date is in the midst of the Barn Owl season which is subject to legislative protections).  Based on the preceding our concerns, and also those received from a number of you already, have already been expressed to the organisers during consultations with them with limited mitigations provided in response - ostensibly this event is being imposed on Long Sutton & Well.

All this said, your Parish Council, is very aware that there is likely to be support for the event from those supportive of motor sport  notwithstanding the negative comments already received by the Parish Council and the concerns we have outlined   Following a discussion during the most recent Parish Council meeting we thought therefore it to be appropriate to seek your views as to whether you are supportive or not of the Dimanche Rally Time Trial going ahead.  If here is a majority of comments against the event then your Parish Council will pursue courses of action to prevent it occurring whilst noting this cannot be guaranteed. Alternatively, if the majority of opinion is in favour of the  event then, of course, your Parish Council will take no further action.

You are welcome to respond directly to this note on the means used or directly to our Parish Clerk on the email below. We would ask for your comments no later than 31 July to enable us to take the appropriate steps as and if required.
